A Cute Maid Toy For Your Desktop

Remember desktop buddies? To me they feel like a relic of a bygone era. These days, it feels like we've gotten so used to the virtual assistants you talk to through your phone that 3D avatars that do silly dances in front of your homescreen seem quaint by comparison. I remember downloading a whole bunch on my parent's PC back in the day, and in hindsight maybe a few minutes of amusement wasn't worth slowing the shit out of their computer. Nevermind how a few of them included spyware, key loggers, Trojans or other types of malware.

A couple years after that I graduated from Bonzi Buddy and a couple Bionicles roaming about my computer's wallpaper to VirtuaGirl, which seems to be known as iStripper these days. You may have seen it advertised on various porn sites; in a nutshell it's a program that allows you to have porn stars and models stripping on your desktop in various outfits. That's probably the closest thing I've seen to my latest Steam find.

That brings me to Maidesktop: a maid for your desktop, just as it says on the tin. She follows your cursor with her eyes and reacts when you click on certain body parts. You can customise her hair and outfit, get her to pose and dance for you and you can even punish her with bondage gear if you're into that.

You can unlock more customisation options the more you interact with her and you can even toggle a nude mode, but that's pretty much it. Her voice is a bit grating so you're better off muting her, plus the everpresent UI gets in the way of immersion. She's fun to fuck around with for a bit, but once the novelty wears off you start to see missed opportunities. Maybe she could've been a little more explicit and let you really get her off with your cursor, or maybe it could've kept going with the maid theme and came bundled with a hard drive cleaner. At the very least, she runs smoothly apart for the most part.

The developer also has an almost identical program called Summer Girl that substitutes the maid outfits for bikinis and BDSM scenes for violently deepthroating a popsicle. Both programs have a lot of room for improvement, but if you're willing to part with a few bucks for a bit of semi lewd fun reminiscent of the desktop buddies of old then you could do a lot worse.
