An Interview with HydraFXX
By Kasaix • 4 years ago

Kasaix: Hello Doujin Army! I’m here with HydraFXX, a 3D artist who makes incredible models and short videos. It’s not often we talk to 3D artists. In fact, this is only the second time (I think), so let’s make this a great one! I recently found Hydra on Newgrounds and watched all his stuff. His work is incredible. The girls look almost 1:1 with their actual series appearances, so all the lewd things they do is that much better.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Thanks for taking the time to hang out. How’s it going, Hydra?

Hydra: I'm alright, thanks! Working on a new project, ran into an issue and trying to fix it for the past three hours with no luck. Nothing's new!

Kasaix: That sounds frustrating. I hope you figure it out soon. Given your talent, I'm sure you will.

Let’s start at the top, could you tell me how you first got into art?

Hydra: Well, I've always been a person of creative nature. I've been drawing cartoons as a kid, then I got into music making, and then into mapping and modding for video games. For the last few years I've been a modder for an adult game and that's where I started making nsfw art. A year ago I've gotten to the point where I stopped having fun as a modder and I felt limited with the tools for my art as well, so I started thinking of alternatives and better solutions. That's when I discovered the 3d adult scene and community of artists making lewds in Blender. Since then I got myself into it.

Here is a few of my old works

Kasaix: That's incredible. You started out as a modder and left when you wanted to really get creative. That's inspiring. Your old work is great too. Did you go to school to learn 3D modeling and animation, or are you self taught?

Hydra: I wish there was a school for nsfw artists, he-he. I am self taught. Blender has a huge community with tons of helpful guides and tutorials around the web. Anyone can learn it.

Kasaix: Nice! People interested in learning should give it a shot. I might take a look myself.

What are your favorite characters and themes to model and animate?

Hydra: Can't really tell about anyone in particular. I'd say any sexually appealing character. Right now I am kind of into Overwatch, but yeah, there are a lot of other titles with beautiful characters to get the hands on out there. As for the themes, I am pretty straight guy with little to no fetishes and I am rather into softcore. Boring, I know ^_^

Kasaix: Your Overwatch work is great. Like I said before, the characters look almost 1:1 with the actual characters. Your themes are great too. That 2B/A2 yuri work is as well.

How long does it typically take you to finish a project?

Hydra: If we're talking about posters, it usually takes a couple of days. Animations though, it heavily depends on the complexity. I'd say it takes around 10-14 days to make it from the start to the release for me.

Kasaix: Wow. A lot of work goes into those animations. The end result is worth it, of course.

What is your favorite project thus far?

Hydra: Hmmm, I think it's the one with Mercy in the bathroom. Been having a lot of fun with it and I am pretty happy how it turned out.

Kasaix: Nice. I like it too. You got steam on the mirror, which is a really great detail

Hydra: Happy to hear that!

Kasaix: Is there a project you'd really like to work on in the future?

Hydra: It's been almost a year and I haven't done anything featuring Lara Croft yet. I want to fix that.

Kasaix: Oh, I like where that's going. What setup do you use to model and animate?

Hydra: It's mostly Blender. I use Adobe After Effects and Photoshop for post production

Kasaix: Nice. What devices do you work on?

Hydra: I work on a desktop computer with an IPS monitor. Nothing special about it except it's pretty old.

Kasaix: Nice setup. Where does your username come from?

Hydra: I like to have catchy nicknames and I like how it sounds. It was supposed to be HydraFX, but I found out it's already taken by a music band, so that's why there is a second 'X', to make it unique. No special meaning behind it.

Kasaix: That sounds cool.

Let’s wrap it up here for now. Do you have any final words to all your fans?

Hydra: Looking forward to keep sharing my work with you guys. You are the best fans in the world. Love you all <3

Thanks for having me in your interview, Kasaix

Kasaix: It was my pleasure. Thanks for taking the time to hang out.
