Pantsu Hunter Brings Retro Waifus to Console
By Yung Namahage • 4 years ago

I don't know about you but there's a certain warm quality to classic anime of the 80s and 90s that today's series just can't match. And that extends to the girls; I'd take a fine vintage waifu like Urusei Yatsura's Lum over {insert current seasonal meme waifu} any day. As such, Pantsu Hunter: Back to the 90s looks right up my alley.

In this point & click adventure/visual novel, you play as university student Kenji Kojima. Needing a way to support himself while living on his own, Kenji becomes a handyman to earn some extra money, only to realise what he really needs is a girlfriend - by no means an easy task. But then he discovers that he has the ability to figure out a girl's personality through their panties, and so begins his quest to get with one of four women.

Originally released on Steam after a succesful Kickstarter campaign, publisher Sometimes You are teaming up with developers Ascension Dream to bring the title to PS4, Vita and Nintendo Switch. As you can see, the overall aesthetic of the game is heavily influenced by anime of the 80s and 90s, while the 90s setting also manages to give it that classic feel. Even the soundtrack, which was made using an old synthesizer, manages to evoke nostalgia and definitely sets it apart from its VN contemporaries. Here's a trailer for the PC version:

Pantsu Hunter: Back to the 90s will be released on PS4, Vita and Switch on August 28. Here's hoping the more erotic content is still intact. Have you played the Steam version? Or will you be checking it out for the first time on console? Do you think vintage anime waifus are better than those of today? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
