Tetsuya Nomura Discusses Changes Made to The Honey Bee Inn Event and More
By Kasaix • 4 years ago

Before we start, take a good long look at the interview HERE. I'll be breaking down my takes on it, because a few parts are straight-up nonsense that were done to appease people who aren't even gamers. Gematsu gathered up some notes in one tidy place, where Tetsuya Nomura, legend in the game industry, broke down what he and his team may have broken.

> "The watchmen of fate (the black mist in the trailer) are mysterious beings that appear before the party wherever they go. I hope that even those who have played the original game will enjoy the new elements."

Okay, a bit weird. Sounds like a new major plot point. Makes me a touch nervous, but I'm not entirely turned off by it.

>"There are quite a bit of dialogue options. We are making it so the dialogue changes depending on your response, so the sheer volume of dialogue has increased."

Again, a but weird, but I'm more curious than nervous.

>"The Honey Bee Inn cross-dressing event is still in. We’ve made it more modern. If we made the facility like we did in the original game, the physical unease would be staggering, so that was no good…"

You know what? I didn't know how they would handle the famous Cloud cross-dressing event. Didn't know how they'd pull it off. And yet, I'm still disappointed. Disappointed in them and in the event.

>"There are quite a few additions to the scenario. While the main story itself hasn’t changed, there are a countless number of new events. Otherwise we wouldn’t have two Blu-ray discs. (Laughs.)"

You added a new spectral force to the scenario. It looks like it'll play a big part. How do you toss them in without affecting the main story?

>"Aerith and Tifa are double heroines. One has a western-style look and the other an eastern-style look."

Fair enough. I think we all saw that theme with the two main waifus of the game.

>"We wanted Tifa to have abs, so she has an athletic body type. The ethics department at Square Enix also told us that we had to tighten her chest as not to get unnatural during all the intense action. From there we got the black underwear and fitted tank top."

This nonsense is why I wanted to write this. A "ethics department" at Square-Enix? I didn't have much of a dog in this fight, I expected Tifa to get toned down. But this nonsense, the "ethics department" can fuck themselves. I've said this before: why is actual terrorism fine, but sexy women need to go? What sort of fucked double standard is that? What message does that send to actual busty women? That's not ethical. That's fucked reasoning. No true gamer cares if a girl is too busty. They decided to pander to people who won't give them a cent. Nomura, you have actually disappointed me. You're supposed to be better than this.

>"With an emphasis on immersion and exhilaration, you can fight without stress through the use of shortcuts. When you open the command menu, time slows and you can fight like a command battle."

This is a middle ground to open battles and the turn-based system the original is based on.

>"Each playable character has different enemy affinities."

Why though. Why. Just...why? I'm still just going to use Cloud at every given opportunity.

>"An item is required for MP recovery."

It's called an "ether". This is not news. We've been using them forever.

>"For the sake of level design, we’re preparing a few new enemies where necessary."

Fair enough. I think we all expected some new enemies.
