A New Contender For the Title of Persona 5's Best Girl?
By Yung Namahage • 5 years ago

I know I'm not the only one here that loved Persona 5. The snappy turn-based combat, phenomenal soundtrack and stellar art direction truly made for a winning combination. And, of course, the great variety of waifus. Now it looks like there could be a new girl joining the ranks of Ann, Haru, Futaba et al.

You may remember Atlus announcing something called Persona 5 R a while back, which many speculated to be a remake of the game à la Persona 4 Golden was to the original Persona 4, featuring an expanded story, more characters and other new gameplay features. Atlus have now dropped a teaser for the mysterious project, revealing its full title as Persona 5: The Royal, but not much else. Apart from one important detail.

The girl prominently displayed in the trailer is wearing the Shujin Academy uniform, showing she goes to the same school as most of the game's characters. It's not clear who she is yet, but it's possible she could be the new protagonist, replacing the male Joker from the original. However, her dialogue shows she doesn't seem to think highly of the Phantom Thieves' methods, which does cast some doubt on the theory. Then again, it's not explicitly stated that it's her voice doing the narration, and Makoto didn't think much of them before she ended up joining. At the very least she could just be a new party member or have a prominent role in the new game's story.

It looks like we'll have to wait until 24 April for more details, but who do you think she could be? A new protagonist, party member or something else? Speculate away in the comments.
