An Interview with Unfairr
By Kasaix • 4 years ago

Kasaix: Hello Doujin Army! I’d like to introduce you all to Unfairr, a great artist I’ve been following for some time, and to whom I recently reached out. What I really like with their art are the action poses. This is how you make a naked, or almost naked girl, look dangerous. The shading brings them out too. It’s great to see here. Not all of them have these action poses, there’s quite a few in more alluring poses, and those are great too.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Thanks for taking the time to hang out. How’s it going, Unfairr?

Unfairr: I'm great Kasaix! and hello everyone! thank you for having me here <3

Kasaix: Let’s start at the top, could you tell me how you first got into art?

Unfairr: Well my Dad was former painter back then, you know like Bob Ross and when I'm looking at his painting, I instantly into art. Just like that. And my first drawing was like when I'm elementary school. I just spend my day doodling random stuff everytime I got bored. Then In middle school I'm taking a very loong break from art (I'm still regreting this decision btw). And in High school, I starting to take interest in Anime especially ecchi&hentai because of my friend influence, thus I'm offically became a Weeb. Along with that my urge to draw rise once again. But unlike my childhood, this time I already decided what I'm going to draw from now on.

Kasaix: Did you go to an art school, or are you all self taught?

Unfairr: Yes I did, It's kind of Design University on my country, although it's a design university, they also have Drawing/Illustration and Concept art as curriculum. But at first I thought I don't really need any education because we can learn anything by ourself now, I mean it's now internet era. We can just watch tutorial on youtube or anywhere to learn, right? But now I realized that going to college also has it's own benefits, like meeting new people, exchanging opinion regarding art, even learning drawing tips from friends, ect.

Kasaix: Where does your name come from?

Unfairr: Just like it's sounds "Unfair", I just added extra "r" because in most of website the name "unfair" is already taken. But I ended up liking this canvas name, because it feels unique. if you're asking why I choose Unfairr as alias because of the world is an unfair place to life or at least that what I feel.

Kasaix: What are your favorite characters and themes to draw?

Unfairr: I'm mainly draw fanart, like Pokemon, Nier, FGO, and other game character I like. Sometimes I also draw character from my favorite shows like Konosuba, OPM, MHA, ect. I'm usually only to draw character I know and familiar with, because when I'm drawing a characer I'm familiar with I feel like could bring out that character 100% potential. I think by understanding character background/origin, trait, or anything will help me come up with something interesting. And about my favorite themes.. well I have a lot of favorite themes but the most exciting theme to draw is definitely Yuri and Futa, or both. Yuri + Futa = Perfection!.

Kasaix: What do you feel is your best picture yet, and why?

Unfairr: hmm.. I guess these two..

I like playing around with lighting, pose, and scenario. What I mean by scenario is  sometimes I also add little bit of story behind it or what's happening inside the picture. that's why by understanding the character willl help me a lot in this kind of artwork. Even though there's story in it, I'm always try to make  Ilustration clear and self explanatory, so I don't really need any dialogue because I have to remember that in the end I'm still making an illustration not comic.

Both is fanart from game Nier:Automata & Nier:Gestalt.

Kasaix: Where do you get the inspiration for your projects from?

Unfairr: I used to hunt for inspirations here on Doujins.com, by reading some doujins or just watching hentai. But now I usually just googling for refferences, and sometimes by looking at other artist works I got some rough Ideas. and after I gathered some of them I'm just begin sketching until I found good pose, action, angle, expression, ect in other word Brainstorming. After I'm happy with sketch I begin the execution (painting) and finishing (making some variations).

Kasaix: How long does it typically take you to finish a project?

Unfairr: It's around a week per piece. I'm really perfectionist kinda guy so I'm really taking my time while drawing, that why compared to other artist I'm kinda slow. It's because I really care about quality of my artwork. There's somekind of standard quality on my works. I don't want to share half-assed work to my supporters and audiences out there. I want to give my all everytime.

Kasaix: Is there a project you'd really like to work on in the future?

Unfairr: I really want to make an eroge but I don't have skill for programming and my english is horrible. I tried to make one few years ago using engine called RPG Maker but the result was so bad, it's buggy and unstable or maybe It's just me being sucks. So I decided to scraped it. I might try again someday with the same or different engine, I don't know. So for now I don't have any plan for project, I just want to focus on drawing whatever I like also improving my skill along the way.

Kasaix: What setup do you use to draw?

Unfairr: Yes I just bought another monitor recently so I'm using two now. But of course all thank's to my supporters help, because it's pretty expensive monitor after all.  For me monitor is the most important part for digital artist. I mean you can't draw without monitor, but you can still draw without drawing tablet as long you have monitor by using mouse maybe? or just scan your traditional artwork and retouch it on you computer, there's always a way! Now It's definitely easier to draw with two monitors, I don't have to press alt+tab everytime when I need to look for references. Also it's has better color accuracy than my older one. And about my drawing tablet, I'm using Wacom ONE Medium. It's decent and cheap tablet, but it's very easy to use and pretty comfortable. I'm not a pro so I don't really need expensive tablet at least for now.

Kasaix: Let’s wrap it up here for now. Do you have any final words to all your fans?

Unfairr: Yes definitely. A huge thank's to my supporters on my Patreon, my customers, clients, and all my audiences out there. You guys are the only reason I can keep on drawing after all. Without you guys support I'm nobody but introvert pervert.

Also thank's to you who spend every minutes reading this article all the way down here, really appreciate that. And if you happen to be artist as well I hope you find this article inspiring.

Anyways thank you Kasaix for Interviewing me this is my first time being interview worldwide I guess?
