Arby's Get Saucy in Latest Marketing Attempt
By Yung Namahage • 5 years ago

Remember a while ago, when fast food chain Wendy's earned a reputation for their snappy Twitter accounts, and that led to a slew of lewds featuring their redheaded mascot? It looks like Arby's do, and they're going for a similar buzz.

For a while now, Arby's social media team have kept their fingers on the pulse for all things anime related, regularly making posts themed around relatively obscure series like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, My Hero AcademiaHunter x Hunter and many more that would probably go over the heads of most but have made an impact among the otaku demographic. But their latest advertising method is no doubt their blatest attempt at appealing to the anime crowd.

Introducing the so-called "Arby's Waifu," a new mascot that intends to capitalise on their otaku fans, and they're encouraging artists to recreate their kawaii gijinka sauce sachet in their own styles.

Artists of the internet were more than happy to oblige of course:

Obviously this has raised a little controversy, but whoever runs the Arby's Twitter knew how to handle it.

That being said, if they knew what "chibi" means, they'll probably know what "rule 34" means, and that means they know goddamn well what they unleashed upon the world. It might have started off cute, but lewds and porn were inevitable.

But hey, any publicity's good publicity, right? I mean, it works for Vocaloid. Who would care about voice synthesising software if there were no waifus involved?

What do you think of the Arby's Waifu? A good marketing move or have they gone too far? Are you craving a burger right now or is it just me? Leave your thoughts in the comments!
