Australia is still being strict on their laws when it comes to video games, even stricter than Patreon. With the release of Matrix Software’s game, Omega Labyrinth Z, being released in the west, Australia’s Department of Communications and Arts has refused its classification, not liking its sexual depictions of certain characters.
Here is an official statement from the Department of Communications and Arts regarding this subject:
Reason: Games 1(a)&(b)
The computer game is classified RC in accordance with the National Classification Code, Computer Games Table, 1. (a) as computer games that "depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified," and (b) "describe or depict in a way that is likely to cause offence to a reasonable adult, a person who is, or appears to be, a child under 18 (whether the person is engaged in sexual activity or not)."
“Any reasonable adult”? I would hope that any “reasonable adult” could separate reality from fantasy. And “or appears to be, a child under 18”. What about all the short girls in hentai and in REAL LIFE that just look under 18? Are we going to discrimination against the short cute girls of the world?! Maybe they go to one of those adult high schools I heard so much about, I don’t know?

On a little side note, real story time. When I went to Momocon, I saw a cute short girl who I’m pretty sure was dressed as Alice. I was afraid to talk to her because she looked like she was fucking 12! But she was by herself, and I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t allow a 12 year old girl to walk by herself without any parents, around a bunch of horny otakus. Moral of the story is, I didn’t go to jail that day and I’m still a virgin :(.
Either way, this isn’t surprising to hear since Australia is known for being strict on games. But for people who live out side of Australia, don’t worry, you can still obtain your ecchi JRPG goodness. Omega Labyrinth Z will be released in North America and Europe some time in spring of this year, for the PS4 and PS Vita. And with the promise of not cutting out any content for its western release, which is a happy bonus.
