Despite my best efforts, I’ve fallen in love with Sousou no Frieren this season. The characters, the world, the journey, I’m in deep and there’s no hope for escaping at this point. I wouldn't want to as each week delivers a new well of emotions to explore. The seemingly inevitable relationship of Fern and Stark developed a bit further this week when they had to dance during a high society soiree. Apart from looking dummy cute, it was nice to see the two working together without issue for once. However, while watching them engage in only the most noble of dance moves, I had to wonder if anyone in the modern age actually enjoys this style of dancing or sees it as romantic. 

It goes without saying that I wasn’t exactly the type of person to tear up the dance floor on prom night. In fact I instead hit the town with the boys and headed to a restaurant where no dancing was expected or required. Perhaps I’m missing out on something awesome, but I don’t see the appeal of this classy, ballroom style dancing. It looks stiff, stoic, and joyless to perform. I should clarify that’s the only dancing I'm targeting here. I can appreciate some clean choreography made for a song or a wild and wacky freestyle dance battle. This soulless shit on the other hand? Perhaps my income bracket is simply too low for my eyes to perceive the deep and complex beauty of formal dancing. If a girl asked me to a fancy dance I’d definitely give it a whirl if she’d teach me the steps in hopes of discovering some appreciation for the style. Other than that fantasy situation though, I don’t ever see a desire forming to attend an event where this style would be encouraged. I’m more of a long walks on the beach kinda guy if we’re really straining to find some romantic events to participate in.

I’ll stay sitting down at a table with some nice cake and Frieren watching the youngsters like Fern and Stark tear up the dance floor… or uh, lightly move around the dance floor I suppose.
