Fortnite Continues Anime Partnerships With My Hero Academia Collab
By WakeUpSnooze • 1 year ago

Well, here we are again. From Naruto to Dragon Ball, it seems the giant battle royale won’t be content until it dips its hands into several major anime franchises. Hell I can’t exactly blame them, I’m sure the skins sell horrendously well and moms’ credit cards across the globe are being stolen everytime a new collab event drops. Given that my friend and I still play the game somewhat regularly (the CEO of Epic has a gun to our heads every Friday night), I am certainly always welcome to these events that spice up the experience. Hell even some regular peeps seemed to enjoy the Dragon Ball crossover. Who doesn’t love blasting someone’s fort to pieces with the help of a kamehameha? I’ll leave the new trailer below, but if you just want to see the confirmation, Deku appears near the end to unleash a destructive blast of energy on a building.

Judging from how he moves at the end of the trailer, people are speculating the event will be similar to Dragon Ball where new franchise-related weapons and tools are put into the game that shake up the meta for a while. That’s personally my hope as while it’s cool from an outside perspective to see Naruto and Fornite crossover, the lack of game-changing tools left a pretty missed opportunity. I mean it added kunai to the game for a while which was sick, but in the face of a kamehameha that devastated forts or the nimbus cloud that allowed for crazy movement options, the kunai were quite forgettable. Hopefully the My Hero Academia crossover will include impactful additions to the game that have a sizable change on how the combat plays out. Anyway, I’m also curious if we’ll get any other quirks besides Deku’s, or if he’ll be the sole star of the show this time. Surely a couple other skins will be available, I can’t see them missing that extra opportunity to reel in more cash, I just hope a couple other quirks are also translated into in-game abilities.

Fortnite dared to test the waters with anime back in November of 2021, unveiling the Naruto update to the world. I assume that test had to be successful because Dragon Ball soon followed in August of this year. Now with My Hero Academia already on the horizon, I think it’s safe to say these anime collabs generate big pay days and are likely to continue. For now my wallet is locked up with the key thrown away… but if there’s ever wind of a Jujutsu Kaisen or Chainsaw Man collab, uh, well let’s just say I may be a raccoon digging through the trash. Will you be trying out the crossover event? Has the rule of three established that anime collabs are here to stay in the game? Is there a series you’d like to see implemented?
