Hololive Fires Vtuber Rushia Shortly After Controversy, But For Other Reasons?
By WakeUpSnooze • 2 years ago

Last Saturday I covered the piece of news surrounding the drama impacting Uruha Rushia, a Hololive Vtuber. She was in hot water with “fans” after receiving a message from a male YouTuber as the fans connected dots and assumed she had been lying to them this whole time about being single. I’ll link that article here in case you want more information on the events leading up to this week’s news. This past Thursday, Hololive announced that they will be firing Rushia and terminating her contract, with her account scheduled to be deleted at the end of March. I’ll link the full press statement here, but also put an excerpt below for those wanting to just read the meat and potatoes.

Now you can bet your ass that the SECOND this news dropped, the speculation began instantly. A lot of people immediately turned to say that Hololive is probably just making something up in order to get rid of Rushia after the huge amount of pushback and harassment she’s been the target of since the original controversy. However, others were quick to point out that Hololive didn’t fire Coco during her fucking international political battle, so it would seem a bit out of character to turn around and fire Rushia for being involved in drama. Plus despite the drama Rushia was still the top superchat earner in the world, so it wouldn’t seem very good for business to fire her unless she did something severe. Personally I think that dealing with the previous controversy put Rushia under a microscope in the company as they likely wanted to get involved to protect one of their idols. Yet while trying to investigate and learn the ins and outs of the situation they found NDA violations and proceeded to go this route of termination.

But hey, I may not know what the fuck I’m talking about so take my theory with a grain of salt. Speaking of salt grains, I did see some classic Reddit theories that also tried to explain the situation. A leading theory that I saw multiple times basically stated that Rushia leaked sensitive information to a YouTuber dubbed “Japanese Keemstar” in order to basically prove that she wasn’t lying about anything during the whole boyfriend fiasco. Being accused of something you didn’t do feels shit, so I could see her going as far as to leak information if it meant proving her innocence. Regardless a theory is just a theory so who knows.

The first forced "graduation" I've heard about. I hope the person behind the character can take a long break and find happiness elsewhere.

At the end of the day what’s done is done, and Rushia’s existence will be nuked from Hololive and YouTube next month unless Hololive does some sort of drastic backpedal. The worst part of these types of situations is you’ll likely never know the whole truth. But as they say, “it do be like that sometimes”. Did you follow Rushia in the past? Do you have a theory as to what happened? Crack open a cold one, pour it out for the dead, and say goodbye to Uruha Rushia in the comments below.
