Why Are People Mad About Gundam: The Witch From Mercury
By ImJustThatKinky • 1 year ago

I’ve watched the prologue and first episode of the new Gundam series, Gundam: The Witch From Mercury, and I liked it. But, I’m just one person, one person isn’t going to be able to support a whole series. So when a vocal crowd of people watch episode 1, and complains about the main protagonist being a female and a lesbian pairing, you know we got a problem on our hands.

People are already calling this series woke, which is an overused term nowadays. I understand that some things in the media try to be woke to appeal or to avoid drama from certain groups of people, but I don’t think that’s what the people working on Gundam are trying to do. I feel like they simply thought to themselves, “Hey, you know what would be cool? Let’s make a Gundam series with its first female protagonist.” I don’t think they had any bigger agenda when coming up with the idea.

Calm down. Gundam isn't trying to turn your kids gay.

I know while watching the first episode, my friend also had their worries. He didn’t have a complete problem with the lesbian aspect of the show, he just worries that it would be the main focus, and go away from the violence and political drama that Gundam series is known for. But like, chill homie, it’s only episode one, we’ll get there.

It’s funny how Lycoris Recoil got slammed for not having a yuri pairing in the show, while Gundam is getting slammed for having a yuri pairing. People are never going to be happy. The first episode is good, and it’s too early to judge the show, so just keep watching it and see how it progresses before becoming a bigot. Let the Gundam girls be gay.

I'd be a lesbian too, if this was the guy I was force to marry.

Are you watching Gundam: The Witch From Mercury? Do you think a female protagonist or lesbian couple is the Gundam team way of being woke? Do you think people are overreacting? Tell us in the comments.
