Are Anime Delays A Big Annoyance Or No Biggie?
By WakeUpSnooze • 7 months ago

These days it’s pretty common to see that at least one of if not multiple anime per season end up having a period of delay in the release schedule. I believe we just got done dealing with delays for Zom 100 and the Nier anime in fact. I try to be a pretty patient person as much as I can, good things cum for those who wait yada yada, and since it doesn’t exactly put me out to wait another week or two for an episode to air I never see myself reaching for a pitchfork. Considering the state of the anime industry where many workers behind the scenes are still being overworked and underpaid anyway, that extra suffering helps to boost my compassion too. There’s pretty much only one scenario when these delays fuck up my day.

Let’s be real, great anime have the privledge of cucking fans however they want. I’m out here waiting for Jujutsu Kaisen to continue for three weeks and everyone knows a popular and impactful arc is just around the corner. I’m on the edge of my seat, but I’m cucked because the content is so good I’m coming back to watch no matter how long of a break the series takes. Now consider a seasonal anime like Undead Murder Farce. If it were to take a two week break, I’m fucked in the planning department. The first being that this is going to ruin the seasonal schedule. Since it took two extra weeks to release, that means it’ll be two weeks behind all the other anime that season. Doesn’t sound like much, but this can get fucky as it’ll eventually be time to check out the new anime for the next season, however you’ll still need to remember to keep up with the still-airing delayed series. Of course this also means you need to care about the seasonal anime enough in the first place to stay on top of it when it returns and get back into the groove of watching it weekly when the delay is over. Overall it’s just an inconvenience on the smaller side, though it is more of a pain when the anime in question is a seasonal one and the release hiccup is long enough to make it continue into the next season. Assuming we’re talking about a regular week or two postponement and not anything crazy like months.

Me counting down the hours until Jujutsu Kaisen's return.

We see a good amount of delays these days, and honestly I don’t see that changing until the anime industry is able to balance these new amazing heights of quality with hiring enough and paying enough workers to make it a sustainable chain of production. While my organization-loving brain gets very pouty when I have to break up the flow of an anime’s schedule, in the grand scheme of this hobby it is one of the least impactful negative traits to my experience. Has anything you watched recently been delayed? Do delays cause problems for you to stay current with an anime, or do you not really feel affected? Pick up some shows to watch, plan out your viewing schedule, and flush it down the toilet when something gets pushed back in the comments below!
