Move over yakuza, a new group of gangsters has entered the arena. That’s right, our MC has moved to a new town and he’s ready to take the top spot. In this season of Tokyo Revengers… wait a minute, I’m covering a new anime today? Wind Breaker? Sounds more like a sports anime but whatever. In that case, move over (nameless gangsters) because our boy is here to squabble. So far I’ve seen the first two episodes and it’s a mixed bag for me. The fight choreography in episode one was outright amazing and the conflict lasted a while. In the second episode we focused much more on the characters and I’m fearing that’s not necessarily a good thing if they continue to be so… trope-centric. Alas, one character I’m downright loving is Kotoha.
Presumably a bit older than the main cast considering she works at a cafe, Kotoha has already spent much of her screentime spitting out wisdom to our naive MC. Not only is she wise, but she’s not afraid to mess around and yank on his chain either. And don’t think for a second she doesn’t look cute doing it. Sometimes animators can inject this weird energy into a character where you want to yell at them and marry them at the same damn time. Just turn your attention to the picture below this. Look how stupid her face is portrayed. However, I can’t help but be charmed by the playfulness. It’s pretty pathetic to think about but so far she’s my top character in the production despite not even being a main role (which doesn’t bode well for longevity). Perhaps as the MC and the other gang members continue to grow I’ll be rooting for their success and want to date them too. Fuck, I mean, uh, you know what I mean.
Sometimes creators just come up with a girl with a winning design or personality and in this case I’m arguing she has both cooking up. I don’t like her chances of winning waifu of the season given her estimated screen time and Holo’s appeal in the Spice and Wolf remake, but at the very least I think she stands out way more than she has any right to. P.S. As of episode four they fucked me by revealing her to be 16, completely screwing up multiple of my points and statements. How this wise and older looking character could be 16 is beyond me but here we are.
