In case you missed the recent announcement, Doujins.com has opened up commissions for audio doujins. You can read up on the whole article here if needed. At first glance, you might say “who fucking cares?” especially if you’re a penny pincher like myself. But even if you don’t plan to use the feature yourself, there’s some promising aspects of this decision by the staff.

I’ve made it no secret in the past that I can’t really get off to audio doujins with a bunch of male dialogue, or actually pretty much any dialogue from a male because almost every male voice is either me or Kinky. Neither of whom I really want to hear while I’m jerking off. But because the budget isn’t there to pay for a known male VA that’s the way it is. Regardless, even if it were some dude’s voice who I didn’t know (as is the case with most other porn), I still simply don’t enjoy hearing him talk. In light of this I started the “Get Male Voices Outta Here” campaign to rid myself of this nuisance. Many proud doujins visitors came to my aid and supported me in the comments…

However, there was also a significant amount who insisted they enjoyed the male voice for immersion purposes and that leaving it out sounds fucking awfully empty and awkward. I can’t hate on that I suppose. We’ve ran polls in the past and one time the majority said they wanted male voices, and then on the next poll the majority vote was to remove them. Obviously we found that there’s at least a decent amount of support from both sides. Going beyond just male voices, we were still seeing a variety of complaints elsewhere too. Sometimes people didn’t like a certain voice actor for a certain role, sometimes they wanted more or less sound effects, etc. This led Kinky to the idea of putting the power of choice in the people’s hands. 

Want to make sure a doujin gets audio, but doesn’t have a male in it to fuck it up? Want to hold an audition and choose the actor you think better fits the role to your ears? The prayers have been answered baby. And considering that we handle audio editing for free, it might not be as expensive as you’d think depending on the actors you choose. Now what I’m personally hoping for, is that we start seeing some commissions where the male is left out. Most of the complaints lately have been that there’s too many audio doujins with males in them, so you’d think that it’d be only logical that people who commission audio doujins are more likely to not pay for a male VA. In any event, it’s now up to the people of Doujins.com to decide what should come out next. Unfortunately, I regret to inform you that there was a sneak peek trial run of this concept already, and the commissioner wanted my ass to voice the guy. So uh, apologies in advance for that one fellas. BUT for what comes after that, my hopes are high, and only you all can decide.

This is likely the last article I’ll make in this saga as there’s no reason to voice my concern anymore. If the people are willing to pay for it themselves and decide what they want, the whole point is customization so why should I complain? I’m not forking over my own money… yet, so I don’t have much ground to stand on. At the end of day this should allow the people with the most interest in audio doujins to have a say in how they’re made, and all I can do is hope they hate male voices as much as me. And for those that enjoy them *cough* Hectotane *cough* you can root against me and cross your fingers that they’ll want to include male VAs.  Or if you really want the job done right, you know what to do.
