Former Act-Age Author Confesses to Indecent Act in Court
By Yung Namahage • 3 years ago

The saga of Tatsuya Matsuki, AKA Tatsuya Matsumoto's fall from grace continues. Once the writer of a beloved series in Japan's most esteemed manga publication, Matsumoto threw that all away when he decided to grope a teenager during a bike ride earlier this year. He was then arrested and his manga was canceled, disappointing thousands of fans and others who worked hard on making Act-Age the success it became.

Matsumoto was recently brought before the Tokyo District Court, where he admitted to the charge of harassing a middle school student. The prosecution decided on giving him 18 months in prison, but his lawyer asked for a suspended sentence since Matsumoto believed he had already been punished enough by society due to his manga's cancellation. If the court decides to grant his request at the sentencing on December 23, the defendant will avoid a prison sentence as long as he retains good behavior and follows the terms of his suspension.

Matsumoto confessed to suffering from anxiety and issues that he couldn't talk about in court, as well as a complex toward women that led to him acting indecently toward a stranger. He admitted that there was no way he could sufficiently apologize to the victim. While he was not indicted for one of two similar incidents that occurred within the same hour in Nakano ward, Tokyo on June 18, he said that there was "generally nothing incorrect" with the accusations he faced.

So, what do you guys make of this? Has Matsumoto really been punished enough already? Or is 18 months in prison enough for him? Let us know what you think down below.
