Here's What's New in Persona 5: The Royal
By Yung Namahage • 4 years ago

I know I'm not the only one that's been waiting for weeks to see exactly what Atlus has been teasing with Persona 5 R. It turns out that it's pretty much what everyone was expecting: an expanded version of the base game similar to Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 Golden. Check the Japanese trailer below and see what's new for yourself!

From the trailer we can deduce that that the mysterious new girl from the announcement teaser isn't a female protagonist but a new member of the Phantom Thieves called Kasumi Yoshizawa. Presumably that means there'll be a new target/palace to unlock her like there is for every other party member other than the first few in the original game, and she might even be a romance option. You can also see a new confidant called Takuto Maruki, the counsellor of Shujin Academy, meaning there's bound to be new abilities to unlock. Speaking of confidants, there are new hangout spots and locations to visit alone or with friends to increase social links, and there are new social events with existing characters.

Existing palaces will also be somewhat different, but the biggest addition of all is that the story will continue for another three months, meaning that the plot will likely have some significant changes. But the new feature I'm most looking forward to is the new music tracks, which I'm sure will go as hard as the original's. Oh, and those new attacks look awesome. Lastly, the new cover art shown at the end of the video features Caroline & Justine somewhat prominently, so I'm hoping this means they play a bigger role in the new story because I absolutely love those adorable scamps.

Persona 5: The Royal will be released 31 October in Japan, with a worldwide release scheduled for 2020. Which new feature are you most excited for? What else do you hope will be included? Let us know in the comments!
