Well, Netflix and American media is doing it again. They’re changing a character race, and this time, it’s Jet from Cowboy Bebop. But the funny thing is, unlike most of the other times, it doesn’t really bother me.

I always hate when a character from an already established IP is forcefully changed genders, or race. It sometimes doesn’t make sense or is just completely unnecessary. But this time around, Jet being turned black didn’t really rub me the wrong way like it usually would. I’m not sure if it was ever mentioned in the original Cowboy Bebop what race Jet was, but looking at Jet’s skin, I would assume that he’s white. But Jet does have the aesthetic, look, and voice that could easily be changed into a black character. I feel like since the transition was so smooth, it doesn't really hit me with whiplash like it usually would.

And with the other cast, Spike is Asian, while Faye is Mexican. It’s a space crew melting pot that actually makes sense. It might not be completely faithful to the original character's race, but I think this time, it’s going to work out.
