Jump Force Ends Support After Three Years
By Yung Namahage • 2 years ago

Bandai Namco's huge anime crossover fighter Jump Force looked like it could be every shonen fan's wet dream. Where else could you play as Goku battling Yami Yugi? Or Kenshiro vs Deku? But as impressive as its 40+strong roster was at launch, its uninteresting story, unbalanced gameplay, questionable graphics and shallow combat ultimately failed to impress players.

Almost three years since launch, Bamco have announced their plans to end support for the title on all platforms, i.e. PS4, Xbone, Switch and PC. This means the game itself will be pulled from online stores alongside all DLC on February 7 2022, with online functions coming to an end on August 24. This means players will no longer be able to access the in-game store, rewards, leaderboard, multiplayer lobby, online ranked matches, or clans. Offline content such as the campaign mode and local battles as well as non-ranked online multiplayer will still be available, and any DLC purchased before removal will still be available for use.

Considering how mediocre the game did it's unlikely a direct sequel will come any time soon, but Shonen Jump crossover games existed years before Jump Force so we could be seeing Luffy and Ichigo cross paths in another game before long. Speaking of crossovers, Naruto will soon be facing off against The Avengers, Jinx from League of Legends and Paul of House Atreides when he lands in Fortnite in the coming weeks. But if you want to see him and plenty more in a flawed yet fanservice-y fighting game, you've got a few more months to secure a digital copy of Jump Force before you'll be forced to jump through hoops to secure a phyisical copy. At least it lasted longer than Anthem, which also released in February 2019 but gave up in February 2021.
