A New Beast Rises

Before the release of Monster Hunter World, Capcom asked fans to submit their designs for a new weapon. The contest culminated in the much-loved Wyvern Ignition being added as a fully functioning Greatsword. A rocket powered greatsword fits well and happens to be my main weapon.

Capcom is giving the fan weapon contest another whirl, with the finalists being announced on Thursday. All of the ideas are very interesting but there are definitely some serious stand outs.

The Old Guard

The last weapon design contest was hosted before the release of MHW originally, with a similar number of finalists.

The winning design was the Impact 702 Greatsword by Frank Yang, a concept artist who was, at the time, on the verge of graduating with a degree in Game Development.

The blade dropped in an event quest in April of 2018 and has become one of the best, if not THE best, greatsword in game.

Icy Autumn

The winning entry will get a fully realized version to come with the new expansion Iceborne.

Not much is really known about Iceborne at this time besides its release window of Autumn 2019, and the implication of an ice focus from the title.

Capcom's only official info is there marketing quote that it will feature "New quest rank, monsters, locales, moves, and equipment! A new story that begins after the events of Monster Hunter: World"
