Summon a Sexy Elder God in Sucker for Love
By Yung Namahage • 3 years ago

In Japan, sex and tentacles have been entwined with each other for 206 years, since Hokusai printed a woman getting it on with a couple of octopi onto a block of wood. Meanwhile in the west, tentacles have been synonymous with horror since 1926, when HP Lovecraft manifested his fear of the sea into words and gave the world the terrible dragon-squid-god thing called Cthulhu. I'm surprised it's taken this long for someone to merge the cutesy presentation of Japanese dating sims with the deep sea creature-worshipping cultist horror themes common in Lovecraft's works, but I can't help but like the result.

Sucker for Love is about a guy who glimpsed upon the face of an eldritch being in a dream, a vast and horrifying thing known as Ln'eta. Since then the man's psyche was fractured, enraptured with thoughts of the deep one that exposed itself to him in the unconscious realm outside of our human understanding. He had toiled non-stop, collecting all the occult relics he could find, spending all he could to summon the indescribable being into reality. Finally, the man purchased the Necronomicon, the Book of the Dead, the mysterious grimoire with which he could finally contact Ln'eta. As it turns out, he didn't quite recieve the Necronomicon he wanted. And he summoned a little more than he bargained for.

My Little Elder God Can't Be This Cute!

Or should I say, Ln'eta is the one who got more than she bargained for. Turns out all the protagonist wanted to summon her for was a kiss, and Ln'eta reluctantly agrees so long as he carries out a few potentially world-ending rituals for her. There are some interesting point-and-click elements for carrying out said rituals that can determine one of three endings for this relatively short visual novel. It's also pretty SFW so don't expect to pound Ln'eta's squamous octopussy, but I'm hoping this gets the Helltaker treatment and ends up inspiring mountains of lewd fanart. Seriously, Ln'eta isn't so indescribable when she can easily be described as both thicc and adorable. Especially with that voice!

I should mention that there's a bit of a catch involved. Sucker for Love is part of Dread X Collection 2, an assortment of 12 cool short games created by different indie devs in only 10 days with an interesting overarching narrative. If you're a fan of game jams and cosmic horror I'd definitely recommend checking them all out on Steam here, but you can also dive straight into Sucker for Love on its own from developer Akabaka on itch here.

So what do you guys think of Sucker for Love? Can Ln'eta get as popular as the Helltaker girls? Are you interested in the whole collection or would you rather get this on its own? Let us know below!
