An Interview with Plasmid
By Kasaix • 4 years ago

Kasaix: Hello Doujin Army! I’m here with another great artist, Plasmid. I’ve been a fan of hers for some time, and I’m glad she agreed to chat. Plasmid is, in my opinion, the queen of the monster girls. There’s just so many great monster girls in her archive. They’re a bit scary, but all sexy. She’s even got Bowsette and Boosette covered. So yeah, hail to the queen.

But we’re jumping ahead a bit. Thanks for taking the time to hang out. How’s it going, Plasmid?

Plasmid: thanks for having me, it’s going really well :3, I'm well rested and about to come back from a break to do some more really lewd drawings, (all monster girls as far as I've got planned ahead)

Kasaix: I've seen other artists do monster girls before, but you're the first I've seen dedicate almost all their art to monster girls. Might be all of it, I haven't seen your entire archive yet. It's impressive though. That Boosette is the perfect mix of scary and sexy. But again, we're jumping ahead. Let’s start at the top, could you tell me how you first got into art?

Plasmid: Thanks :3 and uh, well I guess it started when I was a little kid, like 3 maybe? My mom got me all these like huge informational books on dinosaurs and animals and science and stuff, and I remember them always just having such neat pictures and diagrams describing all the creatures and their anatomy, and so I guess I just started imitating that, drawing animals and stuff from what I'd seen and learned about in these books.

And the older I got and the more I learned about anatomy and biology and stuff from them the more in-depth my drawings got, and eventually they just sort of transitioned over into fantasy and sci-fi type creatures, where I'd be coming up with aliens and monsters and thinking about how they functioned.

I remember in elementary school, while all the other kids would be playing on the playground, I'd often be sitting behind one of the buildings with my sketchbook thinking up some new planet and all it's physical qualities, and drawing all the weird kinds of life that would be on it, or just sitting around doodling dragons and demons and stuff :3

Kasaix: That sounds like an amazing and wholesome childhood. Did you go to an art school, or are you all self taught?

Plasmid: Self taught I suppose, but I've definitely had some help,

like I've never had any formal training, other than the basic art classes through middle and high school, so I never went to an actual art school or fancy art class that wasn’t just a mandatory part of the curriculum

but growing up I spent most of my time after school at one of the tattoo shops my parents owned, either in the front lobby area doodling and showing them to the artists that weren't busy, or in the back office playing with my toys or doing homework

and just growing up around so many actual artists and in an artistic environment like that, with them showing me their own projects and giving me advice and pointers and stuff definitely had a big influence on me and gave me so much support to keep the hobby going and just keep improving

Kasaix: That is also amazing and wholesome. I'm glad you were surrounded by such kind and supportive people.

You were inspired to draw monsters from those books you got as a child, but what inspires your great drawings today?

Plasmid: Well uh at a certain point after high school I got kind of bored drawing the same old things, and I also realized spending my entire life just drawing aliens and monsters had left me with really terrible people drawing skills, so I just sort of decided to take a break and try drawing porn to change things up, and if nothing else it'd help me actually get competent at drawing humans and faces. And I ended up really liking it. But I also still wanted to draw monsters and anatomy, and do worldbuilding and stuff, so I decided to combine the two with my kink for monster girls that I discovered back in like freshman year, and so that’s how I started doing my own monster girl pages.

And pretty soon I ended up with a big list of them that I want to do pages for, and the list just keeps on growing every time I find out about another interesting animal or mythological creature that I think would look neat with boobs and such :3

so it sort of just comes from the same love for learning about biology and science that I gained as a kid, but now combined with my adult horniness lol

And then aside from the monster girl pages, I've just had the good fortune to find a few friends and commissioners who share most of the same kinks as me, and whenever we get to brainstorming about the next thing I'm drawing for them it gets a bit out of control and keeps escalating till it ends with many of the bigger crazier drawings I've done lol.

Then there’s the many succubus ocs I've accidentally made over time from succubus related requests I've taken, and then fanart I've done that’s just inspired by the games and anime I love

Kasaix: "so it sort of just comes from the same love for learning about biology and stuff that I gained as a kid, but now combined with my adult horniness lol" is one of the best quotes from an artist I've ever heard. That's one hell of a journey to get where you are today, and I'm glad you shared it.

How long does it typically take you to finish a project?

Plasmid: It really depends, smaller rougher drawings/commissions I can usually do in a few days, the really rough sketchier stuff I can easily do in a few hours

but then the really huge detailed drawings like Bowsette, my monster girl pages, and the Nivyr commissions can take me 2 or 3 weeks to finish

Kasaix: Wow! I admire that level of dedication to your work. I procrastinate like no tomorrow, and the lewd stories I post which could take maybe a day or two take about 2 or 3 weeks to finish.

Is there a project you'd really like to work on in the future?

Plasmid: Hmm, well I do have ideas for several comics that I've got written down, and then I've had several people suggest putting my ocs in a dating sim or porn game or such, but I'd probably feel more comfortable tackling those with a few more years of experience

then with all the lore and stuff I think up around my monster girls and everything, it'd of course be a dream come true if someone wanted to adapt it into some kind of manga or animated series like monster musume or one punch man,

and then theres a few really huge ideas I've been keeping and occasionally thinking about since highschool for actual video games, but that’d be such a huge project and so far beyond my expertise they're just daydreams really

realistically though, I do have ideas for about 70 more monster girls that I haven't even sketched out yet that could get their own full pages some day, and I'd like to get through as many of them as I can to get a more substantial collection for people to enjoy

Kasaix: I love it, you're bursting with ideas, and I'm absolutely confident you'll hit most, if not all of them, up one day. I'd love to see them come to fruition.

What setup do you use to draw?

Plasmid: just an old insignia 720p monitor, paint tool sai, and a wacom intuos pro tablet

but I'd been thinking about changing over to clip studio when I’m not too busy with commissions and things that I shouldn’t be trying new programs out on lol

Kasaix: Nice setup. Where does your username come from?

Plasmid: It’s just a shortened version of my old xbox gamertag from over a decade ago

and it’s also a neat biology thing, and sounded unique enough. I couldn't really think of anything new that’d be interesting enough

then when its plasmidhentai specifically, that’s just what I use when plasmid is already taken on a site lol

Kasaix: That's cool. I know nothing about biology beyond cursory stuff, so is 'plasmid' like 'plasma', as in blood?

Plasmid: iirc, they’re basically extra-chromosomal dna shaped into rings instead of double helixes, and bacteria and archaea and other little dudes can package them and swap them around with each other to gain new traits, instead of waiting for it to mutate on its own by chance or having to pass it down to their descendants like normal

sort of like a really really mundane version of swapping parts with other animals to make a monster girl :3 (which was an entirely unintended coincidence on my part)

Kasaix: That's really interesting. The scientist who is a hentai artist, or the hentai artist who is a scientist. I like this, I'm glad we can chat. Let’s wrap it up here for now. Do you have any final words to all your fans?

Plasmid: Yup and, hmm just uh, thanks for all the support! :3 and keep on jerkin

Kasaix: You don't need to tell me twice!

Plasmid: lol
